Sandomierz is one of the most beautiful cities in Poland, picturesquely situated on the river Wisła escarpment, which is a steep end of the Świętokrzyskie’s Mountains. Tourists visiting Sandomierz can see a perfectly preserved medieval urban layout. Its former character is reflected in demonstrations of knights' fights and Renaissance dance organized during the tourist season.
The Old Polish royal stronghold is a living witness to the history and culture of our country. It should be mentioned that Sandomierz is a treasury of high-class buildings in the field of architecture. Tourists visiting modern Sandomierz can admire, among others: the oldest and most valuable Dominican Monastery Complex with the church of Saint Jacob, which was built at the beginning of the 13th century, the Cathedral Basilica from the 14th century with wonderfully preserved frescos and polychromy, as well as the Renaissance Town Hall, considered one of the most beautiful in Poland and the Royal Castle - the former residence of Polish kings and princes. When visiting Sandomierz, it is worth climbing to the gothic Opatowska’s Gate, which for many years has been considered a symbol of the city. You can see not only the panorama of Sandomierz, but also the stunning blue ribbon of the river Wisła, surrounding the ancient walls of the royal city.
